Hybrid Smog Check in Los Angeles, CA
Prius, Lexus HS 250h or any other hybrid: if it has a gas engine, California smog checks it on the gas-car schedule. Bring yours and the DMV renewal notice to Los Angeles STAR Smog Check, 1600 W Olympic Blvd. We're open until 7 PM on weekdays and on weekends; walk in or book online.

What to bring

- Your DMV renewal notice or the documents DMV sent you. It says whether this cycle needs a smog certification and whether it has to come from a STAR station.
How it works
Book online or pull in. After you approve the written estimate, we inspect your hybrid the way the state program requires for its model year, and you get the vehicle inspection report.
First check: a new hybrid skips the renewal smog check for its first eight model years, and the owner pays a smog abatement fee instead. Add eight to the model year to find the first year you'll need one: 2022 + 8 = 2030.
Your DMV renewal notice may require a STAR station. We are STAR certified.
If the hybrid fails
We explain what the report shows. As a test-only station we do smog checks, not emissions repairs. Emissions repairs are done at a test-and-repair or repair-only station of your choice. Find a licensed repair station with BAR's Auto Shop Locator. Then bring the car back within 30 calendar days for the $30 smog retest: $21.75, plus the $8.25 certificate if it passes.
After a 12-volt battery replacement or cleared codes, drive normally for a week or two so the readiness monitors can reset. Your owner's manual is worth a look too, since some emissions repairs may be covered by your manufacturer's warranty.
